The Adult Education Department was bifurcated from the Education (S) Department in 1980 and since then the Department has been functioning separately. The Department has been implementing various Adult Education programmes of Centrally and State sponsored schemes. These schemes have been revised from time to time for the target/age group of 15-35 years and above.
The Department initially took up 6 (Six) projects known as Rural Functional Literacy Projects (RFLP) which was 100 % funded by Central Government Simultaneously, the Department also took up 6 (Six) State Adult Education Projects (SAEP) which was funded by State Government.
